Every Little Helps
Am I allowed to say that or will I get in trouble with the big supermarket?
Anyway, I’ve been asked a lot recently if I do photo shoots as gifts! What a lovely idea, and yes I absolutely do.
I offer gift vouchers if you would like to give a newborn shoot as a baby shower gift or a new baby present or family session for a milestone birthday and you’re looking for something a little bit less obvious. Even if you know someone who is getting married and you would like to contribute to their photography as a wedding gift!
When I had my first son our friends bought us a ‘bump to baby’ package which was something i was a little bit nervous about. Not the thought of the baby pictures, but definitely any with me in - cringe! I remember reluctantly booking in the bump shoot and hoping that the photographers would be able to Photoshop away my tattoos from my rebellious teenage years and my double chin and my roots and any spots that might have appeared due to the stupid hormones etc etc. I’m sure everyone has been in the same boat! Me and Liam went for lunch first, and then arrived at the studio and spent the next hour really focused on my bump. Might sound weird but it was such a lovely bonding experience for us both, to treasure the time where we were preparing to become parents.
Liam told me afterwards that it was the first time he had really felt connected to our new baby, obviously there are so many things that Mums go through while they’re pregnant that Dads miss. He came to every scan but it was difficult with work and it was normally a mad dash to get there on time with his pregnant wife moaning how much I needed to wee and how hot I was and how worried I was that there could be something wrong. Never the enjoyable experience we expected that’s for sure. So this was the first time we had both had chance to soak it all in!
When we got the whole collection of pictures back, the one I loved the most (sounds awful to say it, sorry Edward) was the one of me, Liam and bump. It was so natural, tender and although we were both nervous about the ‘cringey, traditional maternity session’ you can’t tell from the picture. It’s now pride of place on my bedroom wall and always will be! I take absolutely no photography credit for this image by the way, it was another studio who shot it.
What is my point? Oh yeah, that however much people protest that they hate having their picture taken etc, they will thank you for it in the end. Promise!
So if you’re looking for something unique and really precious for someone special, or there’s a group of you who would all like to put together to buy a special gift, get in touch and we can chat about vouchers and pre-paid packages.
